A SOCIAL ENDEAVOUR
WRP is Breaking isolation: From immigrant to expat and refugee between. The station motto. The WRP radio project IS an essential communication tool helping to prevent isolation that can happen when you’re outside off the French language but living in the country. Isolation – a human sensation that’s usually hidden and seldom spoken about – but one which, broadcasting on digital and expanding online on a live stream, we target the 200,000 English speakers who make up part of international community in Paris, France.
THE NON-PROFIT FINANCIAL CHALLENGE
Your financial support will help this project stay an essential communication tool to prevent isolation in the international community in Paris be they immigrant to Expat and refugee between. Also operating as a not-for-profit organisation that depends to a high extent on everyone working in a voluntary capacity at all levels. We run a very horizontal and dynamic line.
A COMING OF (DAB+) AGE STORY
The WRP radio project launched in June 2014 on DAB+ digital. This came after having already been alive and kicking for 10 years. We we’re broadcasting almost exclusively online and on mobile devices through an App. We grow in ambition to match our transmission capacity. And today we’re a stronger provider than most not-for-profits thanks to our strategic investment to upgrade our transmission antenna. Today our on-air digital DAB+ signal connects the whole of Ile-de-France.
TIRELESS VOLUNTEERS & JOURNALISTS
Association World Radio Paris is, under French law, a registered not-for-profit association. Our collective activity and output is controlled and evaluated by a volunteer board of 15 professionals incl. NPR, BBC, CNN, The Africa Report, Relax News and AFP. Our volunteer journalists work tirelessly, and their efforts have brought listeners The WRP Local Hour with original and long-running programs including #urbanstates (bi-weekly) and Expo Paris (weekly), Turning Points (monthly) and Paris Goodfood+wine (monthly).
THE WRP LOCAL HOUR
We have a Daily News Bulletin. This airs at the top of the hour. And we have a frequent What’s On Paris Audioshot. Listeners hear these on our DAB+ radio broadcast station and can also subscribe to receive them as WRP Audioshots by email – like a morning caffeine hit – reflecting the social, commercial and economic reasons why different pockets of people which we call, anglophone communities, make Paris their home. The air-play schedule is updated by our volunteer programming manager late on Friday evening, weekly.
PROGRAMMING BY CATEGORY
Better visitor experience on the WRP site. This features a way to listen on-demand to shows featuring as part of The WRP Local Hour. Running times go from 10min, 15min and 28 minute formats, heard by a listening audience 4-times-a-day. These long-running shows feature in categories including Business & culture, Arts & culinary, Entertainment, news & reviews and City & society.
SOCIAL MEDIA SAVVY
We’re making noise! We engage the WRP listening audience on twitter, facebook, LinkedIn and google+. After air-play, we engage listeners with posts about the shows, at times reflective of higher levels of eyeball-engagement. We’re exploring sharing patterns and engaging posts are on the increase. On twitter we share from the lies of Franco-Anglo Chamber of Commerce and also more homegrown Paris-based bloggers.
NEW FOR 2016
In Feb 2016 we launched new shows including A Sunday at the Atelier by an artist and guilder, and Paris Culture Files. And coming for March/April we’ve a show focusing on immigrant experience packaged as Paris sans Maquillage, and a pastry review show from pastry chef Tom tentatively titled Paris, and Pastries, and Bears… Oh my! Oh, and not forgetting the satirical, experience-led How to not be a journalist. Click to subscribe to our newsletter and we’ll keep up-to-date with our upcoming shows.
